The Commission

The main task of the Interdiocesan Commission for Promoting Integral Human Development Commission is to promote the human person and the God-given dignity of everyone in all matters relating to the economy and work, poverty and injustice, and the care of creation as our “common home”. Its remit also includes the ministry with politicians, professionals and other workers from different sectors, as well as the promotion of the mission of the laity in the secular world as expressed in Lumen Gentium 31.

This Commission incorporates the work previously carried out by the Justice and Peace Commission and the Environment Commission, in line with the structure adopted by the Vatican.

In fulfilling its mission, the Commission strives to:

  • Collaborate with all persons of good will to promote an ecological conversion and creatively imagine a more just, peaceful and caring society, whilst working towards.
  • Look at our society from a lower position: through the eyes of those who suffer rather than the mighty; to view history through the eyes of the little ones, rather than through the perspective of the powerful (Magnifica Humanitas 244)
  • Embody a Church which stands alongside society without overpowering it (Magnifica Humanitas 20), is political but not partisan, principled but not ideological, respectful but not silent.
